A Design of the Day project

Skeleton_Key_Design_with_Jokerman_font I have started making these short screencasts for students to view to learn how to use the tools in Silhouette Studio. I have a Silhouette Digital Image cutter and I like teaching clients how to use the software. I hope you will enjoy this short screencast.

Writing Group Attendance

There are many interesting activities available to do where I live.  Just recently, I joined a writing group.  We're not big, just 7-8 members.  We meet once a month and talk about the writing process.  We show what we've written and solicit feedback from other members.  The topics that other authors are writing about include para-normal romance, Nepal adventures, grief, poetry, writing children's books, and other areas. I'm writing curriculum which seems to be less glamorous than the other topics.  Even so, every author needs an audience.  We discussed ways to find our audience including blogging, hosting events, posting on Facebook, Twitter, or Pintrest.  We talked about the value of YouTube, using a dictation method to jot down ideas on the go, and why we write.  That is the million dollar question, why do we write?  I'm not a great businesswoman so at this point in time, I'm not certain how I'll be able to turn a profit with my writing.  Yet, I keep up the task.  The writing group is an excellent resource.  As the Bible verse suggests, "Iron sharpens iron, So one man sharpens another".  The value of working with others to bounce ideas back and forth is incredible.

Starting a Design a Day Blog

In my quest to be a teacher, I'm branching out to teach craft classes.  Here is a brief tutorial I made showing how to make simple shapes with the Silhouette Studio Design software.

Curve Balls

Life has a funny way of throwing you a curve ball every now and then.  My curve ball whirled past me at 100 mph and whipped me off the normal trajectory of life into a new ballpark altogether.

Thank goodness for online connections.  Through my connections from Linked In, I found out about a Building Your Teaching Business Online.  Offered through WizIQ, an online learning platform, the BTB courses showcase many different aspects of online teaching, from garnering students, to blogging, to using social media to promote your online teaching business.  If you'd like to join the class, simply register here https://docs.google.com/document/d/114_-pZjCooPIGuIQNC7KR7kc2N9s0pYNX80NpqEbwYg/edit

If that link is not correct, please let me know so I can direct you further to enroll in this awesome class.

I do realize that I'm not limited to a school district or a brick and mortar establishment to earn an income and follow my passion of teaching.

It's just the whole "GETTING STARTED" part that is scary and overwhelming!

Ever learning,

Jody Bryant

One Door Closes . . .

In life, there are times when one door closes. Or perhaps "closes" is too simple of a word choice.  Sometimes, you are pushed out the door.  The door is slammed shut.  This said door is now bolted shut and you are marched away from one circumstance to be ushered into the next.

Well, that's what happened with me.  I won't bore you with the long and complicated timeline that led me to start this blog and will instead tell you that life is indeed getting better.
